Tangerine House of Design owner and Master Photographer Lisa Asp began this fundraiser with an animal rescue organization in Connecticut while living on the east coast. Her Connecticut studio was able to raise more than $50,000 for charity over the six years the fundraiser took place. When Lisa decided to close her east coast studio and relocate to Minnesota in 2011, she knew this fundraiser had to continue. She found another photographer to continue working with the Connecticut organization and teamed up with Homeward Bound Rescue for the first year in several Minnesota rescues to collectively raise, over $50,000 cash in the seven years of fundraising in the Minneapolis area. In addition, calendars have been supplied to the participating rescues valued at another nearly $75,000.
"Dogs have always held something special for me. I don't think I fully appreciated this however, until 2001 when my husband and I adopted a greyhound from a local rescue in Connecticut. His name was Jersey and he was a gentle soul who willingly put up with all of our crazy photo shoots. He was a best friend and my muse. For a photographer, having access to such a beautiful creature was a godsend, and gave rise to many impromptu sessions featuring Jersey: dog supermodel. It was from those early experiences in the studio that I realized the power of an image to illustrate the true soul of a dog - to show it not as a pet, or a possession, but with all the depth and clarity that comes from living together with a dog in a shared world. A great portrait is the image the owner holds in their mind when they think of their dog. An image can be a powerful thing, even after all these years since Jersey passed away - it only takes seeing his face in a portrait and that soul connection comes back. That's the face of my friend, who I love and miss. I thank God that I have those images. It doesn't replace him but it does remind me of the sweetness of life with a dog. And I love bringing the same emotion to my clients. "
A nice variety of product options are available for purchase, though no purchase is required to take part in the Pin-Up Pets fundraiser. A full price list will be mailed with your session appointment confirmation. We have included product descriptions below. These products will be on display at the studio.
Our most popular wall portrait display, the canvas portrait is truly a masterpiece. A traditional chemical process is used to first print a photograph, the emulsion is then separated from the paper and pressed into an artist’s canvas allowing the texture of the canvas to show. Through this process, the clarity of a photographic image melds with the painterly look of an old master’s work of art.
Another popular selection for wall portrait displays, the photographic portrait offers a smooth, lustre finish. Photographic prints are made using a traditional chemical process. All prints are then mounted on an acid-free, fiber-based archival styrene board to maintain their smooth finish over time without denting or rippling. Photographic prints should be framed under glass for longevity.
Select your favorite 3 or 5 poses and allow us to create a custom collage for you. The canvas collages are produced using the same process as the Masterpiece Canvas and will showcase your pet(s) through creative layouts.

Personalize your pet's portrait with his/her name or a special quote. Your 10x5 print will come framed and ready to display on your shelf or in your office. This is a great idea for gift-giving as well!
Two items will help the photography session run smoothly. The first is treats! We have treats and toys, but if there is something special your dog(s) like or they have a special diet, please bring that with you. (Please keep your treats put away, though, until we need them.) The second is a friendly face. To help your pet feel comfortable, we want to keep the stress level low. If you are feeling stressed, your pet will as well.
Work with your pup(s) on some basic obedience - sit, down, stay, etc. Knowing some of these skills will give him confidence and allow us to photograph him off leash and free! (We know greyhounds are a special breed and don't always do these things...)
Absolutely! All pets, big and small, are welcome to take part in the fundraiser. Greyhound Pets of America-MN will be the beneficiary for the fundraiser, but any pet is welcome. It's a great opportunity to help raise money for a local organization while taking advantage of special pricing and product options. However, the calendar will be greyhound specific (and other sight hounds).
Nope! We often work with rescue animals that have limited knowledge (if any) of basic commands. Sure, knowing basic commands such as sit, come and lay down are helpful, but they aren’t required. We will allow your pup to be himself and will capture that personality as it happens.
If we can, we like to photograph pets off leash so they are comfortable. If necessary, we will put them on leash and can edit the leash out of the photo later. It’ll look as if your pup was roaming the wild! Harnesses are difficult to remove, so we will not use a harness unless absolutely necessary.
Yes, of course! We recommend complementing your pet’s fur with solid color clothing and pick a neutral color that hides pet hair. Avoid white.
We will take your favorites into consideration, but the final decisions for the calendar contest will be determined by Tangerine House of Design. We want the calendar to include a nice variety of images, so in order to have this variety we will make the final selections.
We like to include information about each of the pets in the calendar. Please click the link below to fill out a short questionnaire about your pet!
